Roots for Reece is a local Chef's Picnic benefiting the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition, a nonprofit leading the way to opiate overdose prevention and education. Honoring our friend, the late Reece Byrd. 100% of proceeds will benefit the NCHRC to help prevent more beautiful souls from leaving this earth too early.
This event will host over 20 phenomenal local Chefs, several local breweries, and drink stations. Plus, we will hear music from Lake Chamberlain Band. There will be a Live Auction featuring some amazing local artists and businesses.
This event is casual and laid back. It will be both, inside and outside. Kids crafts, yard games, and farm animals for some additional enjoyment.
Backstory:
In 2017, Chef Blake Gotliffe lost his best friend Reece Byrd to a heroin overdose. He was one of the kindest, loving, and most fun people he has ever known. He was the life of the party wherever he went. When he passed, being an opiate addiction survivor himself, Blake decided to do whatever he could to help prevent more beautiful souls from leaving this earth too early. He started a fundraiser called Roots for Reece. Local farmers and himself donated root vegetables to local restaurants, the chefs prepared a dish, and 100% of the proceeds went to the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition. The following years, 5 course fundraiser dinners were held in the Gotliffe's back yard. More and more Chef's began to reach out wanting to participate so the idea of the picnic came about. And here we are!
